Sunflowers (part 2)

About a week ago, I brought in real sunflowers for my classes to draw from life. Kindergarten talked about the shapes they seen in the real sunflowers and in Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Then, they were able to draw and paint their own!

I posted some last week, this is a sample of more sunflowers:

Painting Real Sunflowers (part 1)

The other day,  I brought in real sunflowers for my classes to draw from life. Kindergarten talked about the shapes they seen in the real sunflowers and in Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Then, they were able to draw and paint their own!

Kindergarten Creates The Dot!

Kindergarten read The Dot, then made their own dots!

I recently read an article about artmaking through choice. Typically I do let students have some choice in their work. But this time I really let them go! I let them chose how they wanted to approach making marks. I gave them large paint brushes, sponges, and a dish of paint. Their only direction was to make marks on the paper. They could use either tool or both! I overheard students talk about how they made colors, I seen students trying out both the brush and the sponge, and not one behavior issue once we started painting! They had a good messy time!
