The Animal in Me: A Lesson About Shapes
Art Theme: Shapes & identity.
Overarching Lesson Goal(s): Students will be able to express who they are through the creation of an animal face using shapes.
Overview: Students will be asked to think about what kind of animal they would be, if they could be an animal. Students will make an animal’s face using cut-out shapes and crayon.
Art Lesson Objectives:
Objective 1: Students will use at least three different shapes to create an animal that
represents who they are.
RI GSE: VAD 1 (K-2)-1: Students demonstrate knowledge and application of Visual Art and Design.
Objective 2: Students will create a symbolic piece of art that is a reflection on how they see themselves.
RI GSE: VAD 3 (K-2) –1: Students demonstrate the ability to communicate
in the language of Visual Art and Design.
Objective 3: Students demonstrated the ability to use scissors, glue and color with crayons.
RI GSE: VAD 1 (K-2) – 2: Students demonstrate knowledge and skill of media, tools, techniques, and processes of Visual Art and Design
1. Created an animal face using three different shapes.
