A Book About Me


Art Theme: Book arts, drawing & identity

Overview: Students create a fold “book about me.” Students have been learning about patterns and shapes. They will be able to apply their knowledge to this lesson. Students will focus on creating illustrations about themselves, their family and what they like to do. Students will be asked to create patterns and apply their knowledge of shapes to make their illustrations for their book.

Art Lesson Objectives:
Objective 1:
Students demonstrated the ability to make a fold book.
National Core Arts Standards: Create: Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
RI GSE: VAD 1 (K-2) – 2: Students demonstrate knowledge and skill
of media, tools, techniques, and processes of Visual Art and Design.

Objective 2: Students explore the theme of self-identity by creating a book.
National Core Arts Standards:Create: Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
RI GSE: VAD 3 (K-2) –1: Students demonstrate the ability to communicate in the language of Visual Art and Design.

Objective 3: Students will demonstrate knowledge of shapes and pattern.
National Core Arts Standards: Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
RI GSE: VAD 1 (K-2) – 2: Students demonstrate knowledge and skill of media,tools, techniques, and processes of Visual Art and Design.

Evaluation:
1. Able to follow directions to make a fold book.
2. Created a book that addressed the theme of self-identity.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of geometric or organic shapes.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of pattern.

Abstract Works of Art!

Art Theme: Drawing, Oil Pastels, Abstract Art

Overview: Students look at and discuss abstract artists Sonia Delanunay, Alma Thomas and Lee Krasner. Students are asked to create their own abstract work of art using oil pastels.

Art Lesson Objectives:
Objective 1:
Create a work of art that uses only shapes, colors, and lines.
National Core Arts Standards:Create: Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
RI GSE: VAD 3 (K-2) –1: Students demonstrate the ability to communicate in the language of Visual Art and Design

Objective 2: Create a visually appealing artwork by filling the space with lines, shapes, and colors.
National Core Arts Standards: Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
RI GSE: VAD 1 (K-2) – 2Students demonstrate knowledge and skill of media, tools, techniques, and processes of Visual Art and Design.

Objective 3: Student will give their work of art a title.
National Core Arts Standards: Responding: Anchor Standard 7: Perceive and analyze artistic work
RI GSE: VAD 4 (K-2) –1: Students reflect upon, analyze and evaluate the work of self and others

Evaluation:
1. Student was able to create a work of art that only used shapes, color, and lines.
2. Student was able to create a visually appealing composition by filling the space.
3. Student was able to title their work.
